Forintek's R&D work often results in patentable products, processes or equipment. Generally, patents are filed in both Canada and the United States. Since 1991, we have received 74 patents for technological innovations, of which 49 are still being maintained.

In accordance with the terms of membership, Forintek will, upon request, grant to any of its Primary and Secondary members in good standing a royalty-free, non-exclusive license for the use of Forintek-owned Canadian patents that result from research jointly funded by industry and governments, provided these are used for the member and not for resale. These licenses, when granted, will be offered without warranties and explicitly exclude sub-licensing.

If an Associate member wants to use and/or commercialise a Forintek-patented technology, a formal licensing agreement, including the payment of royalties, must be developed prior to such use.
