lumber drying correspondence course

FPInnovations' Lumber Drying Correspondence Course has enabled a large number of people to gain a basic understanding of the kiln drying process. It presents information on how wood dries and how to dry wood. It includes information and exercises based on new technologies and practices. A certificate is issued following successful completion of the examination.

This correspondence course consists of twelve lessons as follows:

  1. Introductory Concepts and Terms Used in Lumber Drying
  2. Moisture in Wood
  3. Shrinkage in Wood
  4. Drying Stresses and Degrade
  5. Heat, Temperature and Humidity
  6. The Drying Process
  7. Air Circulation
  8. Kilns
  9. Kiln Drying Schedules
  10. Storage and Transit of Dry Lumber
  11. Alternative and Additional Technology for Kiln Drying
  12. Statistical Quality Control in Kiln Drying

Successful completion of this course will allow the student to take the Module 1 examination for the Kiln Drying Training Program offered by the UBC Centre for Advanced Wood Processing.

Course fee:

FPInnovations members - $802.50 including G.S.T.
Non-members - $1,605.00 including G.S.T.
