lumber drying correspondence course
FPInnovations' Lumber Drying Correspondence Course has enabled a large
number of people to gain a basic understanding of the kiln drying
process. It presents information on how wood dries and how to dry
wood. It includes information and exercises based on new technologies
and practices. A certificate is issued following successful completion
of the examination.
This correspondence course consists of twelve lessons
as follows:
- Introductory Concepts and Terms Used in Lumber Drying
- Moisture in Wood
- Shrinkage in Wood
- Drying Stresses and Degrade
- Heat, Temperature and Humidity
- The Drying Process
- Air Circulation
- Kilns
- Kiln Drying Schedules
- Storage and Transit of Dry Lumber
- Alternative and Additional Technology for Kiln Drying
- Statistical Quality Control in Kiln Drying
Successful completion of this course will allow the student to
take the Module 1 examination for the Kiln Drying Training Program
offered by the
UBC Centre for Advanced Wood Processing.
